The
Versatile 150 71hp and Versatile 160 84hp are "Bidirectional" tractors
in which the operator console rotates 180-degrees to allow the tractor
to be operated in either direction. These tractors have a hydrostatic
transmission and were designed for a rear (PTO) end loader.
This series of bi-directional tractors were manufactured by Versatile from 1977 thru 1983 with a very successful reception in the farming industry.
Versatile 150 and 160 Bi-Directional Tractors 1977-1983
In the late 1960s, Peter Pakosh and brother-in-law Roy Robinson (co-founders of Versatile), along with Peter's brother Daniel Pakosh (a design engineer), toyed with the idea of mounting a loader on the rear of a farm tractor with an operator’s station that would swivel rotating 180° to the rear. This led to Daniel designing and developing the world's first bi-directional tractor.
150: In 1977 the Versatile model 150 71hp (worlds first bi-directional tractor) rolled off the Versatile assembly line in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
160: The Versatile model 160 superseded the 150 in 1982, and with 84 horsepower, it offered a substantial boost in power to handle tougher jobs. The 160 was superseded by a new series - the Versatile 256 in 1984.

Identification: Serial Numbers
Find the ID plate by the rotating tunnel that seat and steering are mounted on.
- Decode Example: Versatile 160 Serial # 001631
- 001 = 1982 (see below), 631 = production sequence - 631, 632, 633 etc.
Tractor serial number lists nearly always show the first tractor built in each year.
Other tractors for each year will have successively higher numbers.
